Get to know our Commissioner, their background, experience, and dedication to advancing human rights in Queensland.
Queensland Human Rights Commissioner, Debbie Platz APM
Debbie Platz commenced as the Queensland Human Rights Commissioner on 30 January 2026. She is the second Commissioner to be appointed to this role in Queensland.
Debbie has extensive public sector leadership experience, including as the New South Wales State Emergency Service (SES), Deputy Commissioner Operations, where she was responsible for safeguarding communities from natural disasters and demonstrated a deep commitment to representing vulnerable people.
Her career includes significant roles in the Australian Federal Police (AFP) as Assistant Commissioner and the Queensland Police Service as Assistant Commissioner.
She has been recognised for her ethical and diligent service, which includes being awarded an Australian Police Medal and Queensland Police Service medal, along with a meritorious service medal.
Debbie holds a Masters of Studies (Applied Criminology) from the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom; Masters of Business Administration from the University of the Sunshine Coast; Graduate Diploma in Education (Secondary/VET) from the University of the Sunshine Coast; and is Adjunct Professor with the University of Queensland.
Our Executive Management Committee
The Executive Management Committee (EMC) provides strategic leadership for the Queensland Human Rights Commission.
It sets our long-term direction, oversees performance, and ensures our work aligns with the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 and the Human Rights Act 2019.
The EMC also shapes the culture of the Commission – building a diverse, inclusive, and high-performing workforce that reflects our values of independence, respect, inclusion, diversity and integrity.

Jane Vasey
Deputy Commissioner, Public Policy and Prevention
Jane is the Deputy Commissioner, currently overseeing the Commission’s legal, policy and education functions.
Jane has a depth of experience within independent statutory agencies and public inquiries. She has led and delivered a number of major reviews and reports, where her work has addressed systemic issues at the intersection of human rights and discrimination within a range of contexts.
She has worked in various senior roles including at the Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability, the Queensland Ombudsman and the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses into Child Sexual Abuse. Prior to her work in systemic reform, Jane practiced as a social justice lawyer in Victoria.
Jane holds qualifications in law and psychology, attaining a Bachelor of Law / Bachelor of Arts, and later a Graduate Diploma in Psychology from the University of Melbourne, and Honours in Psychology from the Queensland University of Technology. She is passionate about transdisciplinary approaches to addressing complex social problems.
Clair Perkins
Director, Enquiries and Dispute Resolution
Clair leads the Enquiries and Dispute Resolution directorate, overseeing the Commission's intake, enquiries and complaint functions. Clair has a background in private legal practice and more than 15 years of experience in statutory complaint handling, including over 10 years at the UK's Financial Ombudsman Service in roles across complaints, stakeholder engagement, education, training and communications.
Clair joined the Commission in 2021 and has guided the Enquiries and Dispute resolution directorate to a more flexible approach to statutory dispute resolution and conciliation.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Laws, Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice, and is admitted as a solicitor to the Supreme Court of Queensland.
Alison Bock
Director, Engagement and Communications
Alison oversees the Commission’s engagement, communications, and marketing activities. Her background spans government, private and not-for-profit sectors, with a focus on behaviour change and social impact.
Alison led major public health and policy campaigns, including COVID-19 vaccination, social housing, and tobacco cessation initiatives, and has worked closely with Queensland communities, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, people with disability, and multicultural communities to co-design inclusive programs.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communication, Graduate Diploma in Public Relations and a Master of Public Health, along with professional qualifications in engagement and marketing.
Anh Bui
Director, Corporate Services
As Director, Corporate Services and Chief Finance Officer (CFO), Anh leads the Performance & People directorate encompassing information and communication technology (ICT), finance, people and culture, corporate governance, procurement and facilities.
She has extensive experience in leading and managing teams across government and non-government organisations, working collaboratively to help people find their unique talents.
Anh holds a Bachelor of Business Administration, Bachelor of Laws, Executive Masters in Public Administration, Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice, and is admitted in the Supreme Court of Queensland. She is also a fellow of the Governance Institute of Australia and member of CPA Australia.
Luke Wenitong
Manager, Yirmba First Nations Unit
Luke manages the Yirmba First Nations Unit, which strengthens the Commission’s partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
He has worked across Australia in community development, human rights, anti-discrimination, digital literacy, and cultural knowledge.
Luke brings experience from local, state and federal government roles. He previously worked with Registered Native Title Bodies Corporate through the Office of the Registrar of Indigenous Corporations.
He is deeply committed to promoting understanding of human rights and cultural rights in First Nations communities across Queensland.
