Customers, face masks and discrimination: a guide for Queensland businesses and services (A4, 8 pages)

During the pandemic, many service providers have revised their entry and service policies to accommodate public health directions, such as the requirement to wear a face mask, and to comply with legal obligations to protect their staff and customers.

This resource aims to help businesses and services to also comply with their obligations under discrimination law in Queensland in relation to their customers and clients.

Queensland's Human Rights Act 2019: A guide for public entities (A4, 54 pages)

This toolkit is a comprehensive guide to the obligations of public entities under the Act.

It includes an overview of each of the rights protected by the Act, practical ways to apply human rights in the workplace, information about complaints processes and remedies, and potential policy triggers.

Human rights and discrimination: a guide for our mob (A4, 17 pages)

This guide is for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their advocates in Queensland. It gives an overview of the Human Rights Act 2019 and the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 and their specific relevance to First Nations peoples, as well as providing information about making complaints, and where to go for more help.

Discrimination and sexual harassment: A guide for young people starting work (A4, 8 pages)

This guide is aimed at young workers and people starting work for the first time. It gives an overview of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 and what it means about fair treatment at work, as well as information about making a complaint about discrimination or sexual harassment.

 

Employer toolkit (A4, 50 pages)

This toolkit provides information and advice on recruitment, managing complaints, the role of Equity Contact Officers, and creating discrimination and harassment free workplaces, to help employers comply with their obligations under the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991.

 

Small business handbook (A4, 36 pages)

This guide looks at discrimination, sexual harassment, vilification and workplace bullying, and answers 20 commonly asked questions for small business, to help them comply with their obligations under the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991.

 

Trans @ Work (A4, 24 pages)

This information is for trans and gender diverse employees, their employers, managers and colleagues who are seeking guidance on issues associated with transitioning at work. We suggest ways to:

  • work together the achieve a successful transition in the workplace;
  • address pre-employment issues; and
  • provide ongoing support to trans employees.

Trans @ School: for students (A4, 18 pages)

This resource has been developed in partnership between the LGBTI Legal Service, Legal Aid Queensland and the Queensland Human Rights Commission, in consultation with the Queensland Children’s Gender Service, young people, parents and educators. This guide is for trans and gender diverse students, and aims to help them navigate the complex issues that can arise at school.

 

Trans @ School: for schools and educators (A4, 30 pages)

This resource has been developed in partnership between the LGBTI Legal Service, Legal Aid Queensland and the Queensland Human Rights Commission, in consultation with the Queensland Children’s Gender Service, young people, parents and educators. It aims to provide guidance for schools and educators on matters that arise in the school environment.
 

Human rights guide for people in prison (A4, 8 pages)

This guide covers human rights, discrimination, and sexual harassment for people in prison. It highlights some of the rights protected by the Human Rights Act 2019 that are particularly relevant for people in prison or detention, and includes information on complaints processes for prisoners.
