To mark 40 years since the establishment of the Australian Human Rights Commission (AHRC), a Brisbane seminar will be presented on 19 May by AHRC in partnership with the Queensland Human Rights Commission (QHRC) as part of The Answer is Human Rights national seminar series.
With so many issues currently impacting the rights of people across Australia, the series looks to explore how human rights can help address critical challenges such as social cohesion, right to peaceful protest, housing affordability, economic inequality, climate change, digital technologies and other key topics. Through discussion, the seminar will unpack how better protection of human rights can help make our communities safer and fairer.
The Brisbane event will be introduced by the Queensland Human Rights Commissioner Debbie Platz followed by a panel discussion featuring Australia's Race Discrimination Commissioner Giridharan Sivaraman, AHRC Chief Executive Leanne Smith, QCOSS CEO Aimee McVeigh and Open Doors Youth Service Inc. Director of Services Necho Brocchi, with panel moderation by Queensland Human Rights Deputy CommissionerJane Vasey.
Refiti Tovi will perform the Welcome to Country on the night.
Seats are limited, so be sure to secure your FREE tickets early.
