Protecting LGBTQIA+SB rights in Queensland
The rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, queer, non-binary, gender diverse people, sistergirls and brotherboys are protected under Queensland’s Human Rights Act 2019 and Anti-Discrimination Act 1991.
These laws aim to ensure that LGBTQIA+SB people are treated with dignity, respect, and equality, and are protected from discrimination and vilification. Many LGBTQIA+SB people still face unfair treatment and discrimination in their daily lives. These laws provide a framework to challenge discrimination and promote inclusion.
International human rights frameworks, such as the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the Yogyakarta Principles, also affirm these rights and guide our work to uphold them for all Queenslanders.
