For LGBTIQ+ people

Human rights are based on the principles of freedom, equality, respect and dignity, and our work at the Commission is aimed at building a Queensland where everyone feels safe and welcome.

The rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer people have been affirmed and upheld though various international human rights treaties, including the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, which sets out the principle of non-discrimination. In 2006 the Yogyakarta Principles were developed to inform our understanding of how existing human rights apply to LGBTIQ+  people.

Queensland’s Human Rights Act 2019 and Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 contain specific protections for LGBTIQ+  people, which we work to uphold.
