For Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people

We acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the First Australians and recognise their culture, history, diversity and their deep connection to the land, waters and seas of Queensland and the Torres Strait. We acknowledge that our offices are on lands of the traditional owners of the Brisbane, Rockhampton, Townsville and Cairns areas and pay our respects to Elders past, present, and emerging.

We acknowledge the structural barriers that Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islander peoples are confronted with in daily life, and recognise the distinction that Indigenous Australians hold as the original peoples of this land.

Our work involves taking a leadership role in human rights in Queensland including upholding, promoting, and protecting the rights of Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Human rights are based on the principles of freedom, equality, respect and dignity, and our work at the Commission is aimed at building a Queensland where everyone feels safe and welcome.
